Improvisation ist kein unanständiges Wort. Mit der von Meg Stuart, Jeremy Wade und Brendan Dougherty entwickelten Improv-Series widmet sich "Politics of Ecstasy" einem oft vernachlässigten Format und öffnet das Festival zugleich für die lokale Tanzcommunity. Ein Pool der besten Berliner Tänzer, Performer und Musiker arbeitet mit Unterstützung von Kostüm- und Bühnenbildnern, Lichtdesignern und Gastkünstlern wie Fritz Welch und Jochen Arbeit an zeitgenössischen Formen der Improvisation, um ihr widerspenstiges Potential, ihre Freiheit, Spontaneität und rohe Kraft auszuloten.

Die Improv-Series ermöglicht einen freien Zugang zur Produktion von Ekstase in Echtzeit ohne den Druck, am Ende ein Werk produzieren zu müssen. Im Vorfeld des Festivals sind ganz unterschiedliche Performer auf mehreren Workshops in eine improvisatorische Kommunikation über das Thema der Ekstase getreten. Dabei wurden die folgenden Formate entwickelt, um Ekstase in mannigfaltigen Zugängen mit ihren Brüchen und Schwierigkeiten auf die Bühne bringen.
Improvisation is not a dirty word. With this series of improvisations developed by Meg Stuart, Jeremy Wade, and Brendan Dougherty, "Politics of Ecstasy" is devoting itself to an often neglected format and opens the festival up to the local dance community. A pool of the best Berlin dancers, performers, and musicians works with the support of costume, light and set designers and guest artists such as Fritz Welch and Jochen Arbeit on contemporary forms of improvisation, in order to explore its unruly potential, its freedom, spontaneity, and raw power.

The Improv-Series gives free access to the production of ecstasy in real time, without the pressure of having to produce a work at the end of it all. Ahead of the festival, very different performers entered into an improvisational communication about the subject of ecstasy at a number of workshops. There, they developed the following formats to put ecstasy up on the stage, in all its manifold forms and with all its difficulties and discontinuities.

Das Festival beginnt mit einer großen gemeinsamen Aktion. Im Anschluss an die Festivaleröffnung mit Yasmeen Godders "Singular Sensation" findet ein Experiment statt: eine Stunde lang lachen. Nach dieser schmerzhaften, aber erholsamen Erfahrung tischen die Kuratoren mit Festivalkoch Manuel Czech in absoluter Stille ein großes Abendessen auf.

The festival begins with one big joint action. Following the festival launch with Yasmeen Godder's "Singular Sensation", there will be an experiment: laughing for a whole hour. After this painful, but refreshing experience, the organizers and festival-chef Manuel Czech will serve a big dinner in absolute silence.

Als Fortsetzung der im Vorfeld des Festivals veranstalteten Workshops entwickelt der Improv-Pool im HAU 3 zwei Tage lang Experimente und Aktionen, die um das Thema der Ekstase kreisen. Am Samstagabend präsentiert die "Task Factory" dann ihre Ergebnisse: Spuren und Überreste der vorangegangenen Arbeit und neue performative Experimente.

Mittwoch ist Community-Abend bei "Politics of Ecstasy"! Zuerst wird die Bühne des HAU 1 beim "Open Mic" für ein breites Publikum geöffnet. Jeder Berliner und jede Berlinerin ist eingeladen, einen kurzen Act zum Festivalthema zu präsentieren. Es gibt nur Gewinner, keine Verlierer! Durch den Abend führen The United Patriotic Squadrons of Blessed Diana (Marl?ne Saldana und Jonathan Drillet).

Danach geht es gemeinsam ins HAU 2 zum Abendessen mit Festivalkoch Manuel Czech. Wer Lust hat, bringt noch seine eigenen Platten mit, und die Sharing Needles Party kann steigen! Und wenn uns die Kraft ausgeht, übernimmt DJ Mytch mit 60s Wyldestyle, spät70er Punkrock und New Wave.

Wednesday is community night at "Politics of Ecstasy"! First, the HAU 1 stage will be opened up to a wide audience in "Open Mic". All Berliners are invited to present a short act on the festival theme. There will only be winners, no losers! The evening will be hosted by The United Patriotic Squadrons of Blessed Diana (Marl?ne Saldana and Jonathan Drillet).

Then the action moves to HAU 2 and dinner with festival chef Manuel Czech. Anyone who wants to can bring their own records, and the Sharing Needles Party will get better and better! And when we start to run out of steam, DJ Mytch will take over, with 60s wyldestyle, late-70s punk and New Wave.

An diesem Abend wird Improvisation in Reinform gewürdigt. Die besten Performer Berlins reflektieren Improvisation unter dem Motto: Ignorance is Bliss/Glückselig sind die Unwissenden. Nicht zu wissen was kommt, und darin das größte Glück zu finden - so könnte man Improvisation auch beschreiben.

Zum krönenden Abschluss werden nochmal alle Kräfte für einen großen Abgang gesammelt. Das Festival endet mit einem ausufernden Improvisationsabend. Zur Stärkung gibt es im Foyer ein Big Fat Southern Soul Food Buffet von Festivalkoch Manuel Czech. Danach ist man dann auch wieder fit für die grosse Abschlussparty.
